  • The cost-out programme will deliver cost savings early on by attacking the easy cost categories first
  • As the programme progresses and participants get up to speed with the methods, the programme will begin to deliver massive cost savings on an ongoing basis
  • A side benefit to the programme's constant delivery of cost savings is that it installs a healthy cost awareness culture and educate all participants in valuable cost-out skills

Cost-Out Package example: "Switchboards"

SCOPE

The scope of this particular cost-out project (being just one out of the programme’s many cost-out projects) was to optimise the technical solution concerning the switchboards cost category. The following engineering and commercial ideas were created, analysed and implemented in the resulting cost-out package:

  • Reduced demand in technical specifications
  • De-centralised switchboard locations
  • Reduced spare holdings
  • Reduced site-modifications
  • Introducing local Motor Starter (MS) located next to the power consumer
  • Changed logistics solution
  • Technical changes opening up to new more competitive suppliers

COST SAVINGS

The actual cost savings delivered by the “Switchboards” cost-out package (on the Switchboards cost scope) when incorporated into different power plant product platforms in which they are used, were:


Biomass power plant: 7.1%
Waste power plant: 9.8%
Hybrid/Diesel Engine power plant: 4.8%


These cost savings corresponded to several millions DKK of EBIT improvement.
